Cross Country Rally organisers

The annual meeting between the FIM and the organisers of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship took place on 3 September at the FIM headquarters in the presence of the FIM President, Jorge Viegas, and the FIA President of the Cross-Country Rally Commission, Jutta Kleinschmidt.

 

Many topics were discussed including:
Harmonisation of the FIM / FIA regulations: Continuation of the collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile on the elaboration of common sporting regulations.
New categories: A focus on security in 2020 with the introduction of 3 new categories; RallyGP (Pro & Experienced Riders) – Rally2 (New comers) – Rally Adventure Trophy (Autonomous riders without mechanical assistance).

Provisional calendar 2020: The FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship calendar will have 4 mixed events out of the 5 events in total, only the Rally dos Sertoes of Brazil will be exclusively under the control of the FIM including Motos and Side by Side Vehicles (SSV), the dates are as follows :

Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge – EMSO – 20 – 26 March 2020
Rally Kazakhstan – AMFK – 24 – 29 May 2020
SilkWay Rally- MFR – 03 – 17 July 2020
Rally dos Sertoes – CBM – August / Sept. 2020 (TBC)
Rally of Morocco – FRMM – 08 – 13 October 2020

Calendar 2021: After many years of discussion the FIM is proud to announce the arrival of the famous Dakar as the opening round of the FIM Cross-Country Rally Championship in 2021. More detailed information will be published soon.

At the end of the meetings, FIM President Jorge Viegas said: « I want to thank all the participants especially Miss Jutta Kleinschmidt, for this intense day of work. Thanks to the excellent collaboration between the different organisations this day has been fruitful. I am confident that we are working in the right direction and that together we will position the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship in the place it deserves. »
