Daniel Ticktum (GB) of the Motopark team claimed his first win in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The Red Bull Junior won the first of three races at the Hungaroring in Hungary. As at the season-opener in Pau (France), Ticktum started from pole position. This time, however, he only surrendered the lead briefly before fighting back to take victory ‘powered by Volkswagen’.

The 18-year-old also started race two from the front of the grid. However, he was forced to retire with a brakes issue. Ticktum bounced back in race two at the demanding circuit near Budapest, finishing second behind his compatriot Enaam Ahmed (Hitech Bullfrog GP) to claim his next podium result. After six of this season’s 30 races, Ahmed leads the championship with 83 points.

Ticktum is the best-placed Volkswagen in third place, 20 points off the lead. Races seven to nine will take place at the Norisring from 22 to 24 June.
