Petter Solberg (N) of the PSRX Volkswagen team narrowly missed out on a place on the podium, finishing fourth at the opening round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX) in Barcelona. Solberg and team-mate Johan Kristoffersson (S) had both progressed to the final with the Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercar.
Kristoffersson started from first place on the grid, but got away badly and eventually had to settle for sixth. However, the newly-formed team did have something to celebrate: they top the Team standings, level on points with the EKS team of winner Mattias Ekström (S/Audi).
Volkswagen also had cause for celebration in the European Rallycross Championship, where Anton Marklund (S) was victorious at the wheel of a Polo. The next race weekend in the WRX takes place in Montalegre (P) on 20 and 21 April.
