WEC : Miguel Molina ready for battle in the outhern hemisphere

Following his return to the European Le Mans Series podium, Miguel Molina heads to the tropics of São Paulo to take up a new challenge. The Ferrari factory driver returns to the iconic Interlagos circuit for the FIA World Endurance Championship, which is entering the second half of the season. The Spaniard and teammates Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen are determined to demonstrate the full extent of their jogo bonito behind the wheel of the #50 Ferrari 499P.

Just a month after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Miguel Molina returns to the FIA World Endurance Championship for the 6 Hours of São Paulo. Round five of the 2025 calendar marks the start of the second half of the season, where the Spaniard hopes to shine alongside Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen in the #50 Ferrari 499P run by Ferrari – AF Corse.

Miguel Molina is no stranger to the Interlagos circuit. At 800 metres above sea level, the track is famous for its elevation changes, banked corners and counter-clockwise layout, which puts the right-side tyres and drivers to the test. The 4.309 km track has three very distinct sectors. The first features undulating curves and a short straight, whilst the second is very fast and technical. The lap concludes with a full-throttle uphill climb to the start/finish line, passing in front of packed grandstands. Careful traffic management will again be essential, and the unpredictable weather in São Paulo could make the challenge even tougher.

« We head to Interlagos with our 499Ps for the second time, and the experience gained last year will be useful. This circuit has a unique layout within the FIA WEC calendar: the track is short and characterised in particular by the low-speed corners in the second and third sectors, where effective traffic management is crucial. It’s also crucial to make the most of the few overtaking opportunities to do well at São Paulo. »

Although luck has sometimes eluded them, the #50 Ferrari crew has consistently demonstrated its competitiveness since the start of the season, with a victory in the opening round in Qatar. After the frustrating result at Le Mans, the trio is determined to bounce back in South America with clear goals: to score as many points as possible to move up the driver’s standings, currently dominated by their teammates in the #51 car, while helping Ferrari take another step towards the manufacturers’ title.

« It’s great to return to São Paulo, racing in front of a crowd that welcomed us so warmly last year, showing how strong the passion for endurance racing and the Prancing Horse is in South America. I’m also happy to return to the world championship after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which didn’t end as we’d hoped for our crew. So, there’s a strong desire to get back into the cockpit of our 499P and enjoy a great race weekend, with the hope of achieving a strong result that would be invaluable for securing key points for the world championship standings. »

The weekend programme will return to its traditional format after Le Mans, featuring two free practice sessions on Friday, followed by a final session on Saturday, before qualifying and the Hyperpole. The race will start on Sunday at 11:30 am in Brazil (4:30 pm CEST).
