The 10th edition of the Gulf 12 Hours will mark the opening of the 2021 world endurance racing season, as it switches to take place on 9 January 2021 at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Due to the revision of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 calendar, it would have been problematic to arrange the Gulf 12 Hours’ logistical operations so close to the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Additionally, with the effects of the recent pandemic forcing a high concentration of races in Europe to be re-scheduled towards the end of the 2020 season, the promoter of the Gulf 12 Hours and Yas Marina Circuit management have agreed on a more functional date for the prestigious endurance race originally scheduled for December 2020.
This special edition will also be a unique way to celebrate the 10th Gulf 12 Hours. It will, however, be a one-off event as the promoter plans the 11th edition to take place on its traditional date in December 2021.
The grid for the 10th edition on 9 January 2021 is already over-subscribed with space for GT3 cars at a premium. Gulf 12 Hours will continue to only allocate one car per garage up to a maximum of 34 garages to ensure the highest quality standards of safety and professionalism are maintained.
Registration applications have been received from 38 teams for a total of 61 cars with only GT3, GT4 and Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars allowed to compete. The entry list will be published soon.
