Elisabete Jacinto and the cabin crew solved the mechanical difficulties they are still competing in the Libya Rally 2016The Portuguese pilot Elisabete Jacinto and the OLEOBAN® team succeeded, after many hours of work, to solve the mechanical difficulty that arose after the competition truck turned in the dunes of the Erg Chegaga. The trio is already at their way to the camp that is installed in Mhamid, Morocco.

Elisabete Jacinto was in front of the race when at the kilometre 55 of the fourth stage of the Libya Rally 2016, while going through a series of high dunes, the soft sand gave way and the truck ended up sliding and falling. The MAN TGS from the OLEOBAN® team stayed up side down for about two hours and with the help of the Dutch Mammoet Rallysport – the same that hit the Portuguese in the first stage – they managed to put the truck back on its wheels.

The Truck from the OLEOBAN the team fell at km 55 of the fourth stage of the Libya RallyHowever, it was detected a mechanical problem that forced the Portuguese to stay in the desert and to wait to be helped by their assistance. Jorge Gil, the director of the team went immediately to the rescue of his team: « we took the material to the truck and it took us about five hours to get close to them to provide the necessary assistance and to provide food and water to the three of them. At this time, they have managed to come out of that desert area and we know they are doing their best to reach the camp. We are saddened by this situation, but we were quite satisfied with the changes that the truck suffered. The results obtained in the last days are the mirror of the good work that has been developed. I am proud of the team because of the fast, prompt and professional reaction that they had towards this complex situation » said the manager from the OLEOBAN® team.

The fifth stage of the Libya Rally 2016 will be held tomorrow between Mhamid and Merzouga. There will be 337 timed kilometres held between oueds, mountains, valleys, sandy tracks and dunes. The great challenge of the day will undoubtedly be the crossing of the majestic dunes of the Erg Chebbi that competitors will find just before reaching the camp in Merzouga.
