Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus is running two of their bespoke race cars, the SCG003C, at the Mugello 12H. Car 702 driven by Thomas Mutsch, Jeff Westphal and Andreas Simonsen qualified in 11th position, and car 701 driven by Manuel Lauck, Franck Mailleux, and Felipe Laser in 13th position.

Each car completed two timed laps during qualifying with the fastest of the two used to determine their start grid position. Car 702 set a fastest qualifying lap of 1.50.081 and car 701 of 1.50.632.

Unlike other endurance championships the race will commence with four hours of competition today at 14.00 followed by eight hours on Saturday before the winners are crowned at the podium ceremony at 17.45.

Jeff Westphal completed the full qualifying session in car 702 and said: « Coming into a race weekend with new tyres and having to relearn and rebalance, I feel we’ve done a pretty good job. The biggest thing I’ve learnt from qualifying is the need to manage the traffic, it’s all about keeping the car protected while trying to be as quick as possible. »

Manuel Lauck completed qualifying in car 701 and said: « Qualifying didn’t go exactly as expected as we were running at 1.49 during free practice. We had a minor issue with the car so we lost some power during qualifying. The team is working to fix this now so we can improve for the race later today. »

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus tested the SCG003C at Valencia, Rijeka and Aragon earlier this year, and were able to put many of the things learnt into practice during qualifying today at Mugello 12H.

Paolo Garella, Programme Director said: “The testing earlier this year was incredibly valuable and allowed us to focus on three key areas, the engine in terms of performance and usability, aerodynamics and electronics. We’ve been able to put those improvements into place during qualifying today and we are looking forward to continuing to improve across this race, and the remainder of the season.”
