– Double points score for the Porsche Formula E Team
– Wehrlein finishes fourth, Nico Müller seventh on a drying track
– »Felipe Drugovich claims maiden pole position for customer team Andretti
Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller secured a double points finish for the Porsche Formula E Team in Sunday’s ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Shanghai E-Prix. Finishing fourth, Wehrlein moved into the lead of the drivers’ standings, while Müller crossed the line in seventh place to further reduce the gap in the teams’ championship. Felipe Drugovich of the Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E finished sixth after starting from his maiden Formula E pole position. With Cupra Kiro’s Dan Ticktum taking tenth place, four Porsche-powered cars finished in the top 10.
The race began behind the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT safety car due to wet conditions, with a standing start following after three laps. Starting third and fifth, early Attack Mode activations in the wettest conditions allowed Wehrlein and Müller to move into the lead. As the Shanghai International Circuit dried towards the end of the 28-lap race, the pair dropped back to fourth and seventh respectively.
Felipe Drugovich’s maiden pole position in Formula E ensured Porsche-powered cars have now taken six consecutive pole positions. After Shanghai, and with four races remaining in the 2025/2026 season, Porsche leads the manufacturers’ standings by 50 points.
The factory-run Porsche Formula E Team remains second in the teams’ standings but reduced the gap to Jaguar TCS Racing from 30 to 6 points. In the drivers’ standings, Wehrlein scored points for fourth place on Sunday as his closest competitor, Mitch Evans, did not start the race. The German has retaken the championship lead after last leading the standings heading into the Monaco race weekend. He now leads by 9 points.
Racing for Charity
Under the motto Racing for Charity, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is making a strong social statement in the current Formula E season, supporting seriously ill children worldwide. For every lap completed by its two factory-run Porsche 99X Electric, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer donates 400 euros to the charitable organizations Kinderherzen retten e.V., Interplast Germany e.V., and the Ferry Porsche Foundation. After Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller completed the maximum number of laps at the thirteenth race of the season in Shanghai, the donation amount stands at 338,800 Euro.
Comments on the Shanghai E-Prix
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: « Overall, this was a successful weekend. However, we are a bit disappointed with today’s race result after the performance we showed early on. In races with changing weather conditions, there is not much you can do when some competitors gamble with their setup choices. Congratulations to Lucas di Grassi on another Formula E victory! On Nico’s side, his qualifying performance improved significantly from yesterday after we found an issue. He won his group, which was impressive, as did Pascal. Looking at the title fight, we were very sorry that Mitch was unable to start the race. That is not how we want to fight for the championship. Nevertheless, we leave Shanghai with a good foundation for Tokyo and London. Thanks to the team for doing a really good job, including our colleagues back at the factory. We had to deal with particularly challenging conditions this weekend. »
Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#94): « It was a bittersweet second race. Once again, our pace in qualifying was strong and we were in contention for another pole position, but we chose not to gamble on a dry setup. It was a similar story in the race. We were quick when it was wet, but the track dried quickly and the drivers on a dry setup were very strong at the end. Still, we scored 12 important points for fourth place and 40 in total across the weekend. I would have taken that before coming here. »
Nico Müller, Porsche factory driver (#51): « In qualifying, the car performed well in the wet conditions. That was a good step forward compared to Saturday. We were fastest in the group stage, but did not maximise the duels. Early in the race, Pascal and I were running first and second. However, as the track dried, we started to struggle. Still, we brought home good points today, even though it felt like more was possible. »
