– Finishing fifth, Dylan Pereira claims his first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup title
– Defending champion Larry ten Voorde from the Netherlands becomes vice-champion ahead of Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich from Germany
– Norway’s Roar Lindland concludes the 30th season of the international one-make cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup as the overall ProAm winner

Thrills and spills characterised the season finale of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monza. After 15 laps with countless battles for positions among the leading pack, the Dane Bastian Buus took the flag first ahead of Harry King from the UK, his BWT Lechner Racing teammate. Championship leader Dylan Pereira crossed the finish line in P3 at the wheel of the team champion’s third Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. However, both King and Pereira lost positions due to a time penalty. Fifth place was still enough for the Pereira to win the championship title.

Dylan Pereira basically only had to cross the finish line to secure the overall title in the Mobil 1 Supercup. Instead, the Luxembourger started the race from third on the grid and got repeatedly entangled in hair-raising battles for positions. In the duel with one of his top rivals for the title, Larry ten Voorde, Pereira even made several mistakes. For this, he was handed a three-second time penalty from the stewards. Pereira crossed the finish line in the ca. 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup as third but was relegated to fifth place – which was enough anyway to take home his first Supercup title. « Ok, the final round of the season didn’t go so smoothly. But the most important thing is winning the title. I’ve worked towards this for seven years, » beamed the 25-year-old sports soldier.

Larry ten Voorde complimented his successor on claiming the Supercup crown: « Congratulations to Dylan. That was again an extremely exciting Supercup season. I did my best but this time it wasn’t quite enough to retain the title, » commented the Dutchman from the GP Elite squad.

Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich, who travelled to Monza with an outsider chance of claiming the title, crossed the finish line in tenth place. « Unfortunately, I was forced off the track shortly after the start which threw me down the field to 18th. From there, it was impossible to achieve a better result than tenth, » stated the 20-year-old from Germany. One small consolation: Heinrich retains his third overall in the standings.

However, Bastian Buus from Denmark almost snatched this ranking from him. In the first few metres, the newly crowned rookie champion overtook the pole-sitter Marvin Klein from France (CLRT). Buus defended the lead vehemently against Klein, even after a safety car phase. In the second half of the race, he then had to shake off his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Harry King. Buus gave the Englishman no chance and ultimately brought home his second win of the season. « I had a few different strategies up my sleeve before the start of the race – overtaking Marvin at the start was one of them. After that, I focussed on not making any mistakes at the front, » reported Buus. The 19-year-old Dane won all eight races in the rookie class of the 2022 Supercup season – and set a new record. In the overall standings, he ranked fourth place, just one point behind Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich.

King took his defeat against his young teammate in a sportsmanlike manner. « Bastian defended himself cleverly. An attack would have possibly been too risky – and, of course, that’s exactly what our team boss Robert Lechner before the start expressly banned us from doing. » While Harry King took the flag in second place, a bad surprise came for him a while after crossing the finish line. He was handed a five-second penalty from the stewards for shunting Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich. Because of this and Pereira’s penalty, Larry ten Voorde inherited second place. King retained fifth place in the overall standings.

Victory in the ProAm category at the Supercup finale went to the Englishman Aaron Mason from the Pierre Martinet by Alméras squad. His teammate Roar Lindland came fourth in the ProAm category. With this result, the Norwegian clinched the ProAm title in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the fourth time.

« It doesn’t get more exciting than this. The finale in Monza was a worthy conclusion to the 30th Supercup season and the best promotion for racing with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, » commented Michael Dreiser. The Director of Sales at Porsche Motorsport presented Bastian Buus with the winners’ trophy. Oliver Schwab, Project Manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, added: « Congratulations to BWT Lechner Racing. To win the driver’s title with Dylan Pereira, the rookie title with Bastian Buus and also the team title is a huge achievement. Congratulations, too, to Roar Lindland for claiming his fourth ProAm title. I’d also like to thank all the other teams and every single team member for an extremely gripping and highly professional 30th Supercup season. »

Dylan Pereira, the 2022 Supercup champion
To some degree, Dylan Pereira was born with a passion for motor racing: His father Guillaume, who immigrated to Luxembourg from Portugal, raced karts with success. It’s almost logical that Pereira Junior would follow in his footsteps and climb aboard a kart at the age of ten. After claiming two titles in the Euro Winter Cup and contesting several seasons in the European and World Championships, his motorsport career path finally led him to GT racing.

In 2015, Dylan Pereira, who regards the Formula 1 world champions Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton as role models, contested his first Supercup race in Austin, USA. To date, he has notched up eight race victories – the first in 2019 at Hockenheim. In addition, the three-time Luxembourg ‘Motorsports Person of the Year’ has also tackled endurance races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He sees his future here: « My sights are set on a works cockpit, » says Pereira with confidence.

His unusual job allows him time to pursue this path: Although Dylan Pereira studied computer science, he is in fact employed by the Luxembourg Armed Forces – as a sports soldier in the elite squad for Olympic sporting disciplines.
