An impressive comeback, ‘powered by Volkswagen’: Robert Huff (GB) is back among the front-runners in the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR). At the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, he laid the foundations for his two podium finishes in Zandvoort with a fine performance in qualifying. Huff first secured his first pole position of the season in qualifying for race one, before landing his Golf GTI TCR on the front row of the grid again for race three. The British driver converted his pole into third place in the opening race, and then went one better in race three, coming home second.

Huff also finished eighth in the second race of the weekend, in which the top ten from the second qualifying session started in reverse order. The Volkswagen driver’s total points haul for the weekend – including bonus points scored in qualifying – see him climb to third in the Drivers’ Championship, just 16 points behind the new leader Yann Ehrlacher (F, Honda) and seven behind Yvan Muller (F, Hyundai).

After six races in the space of nine days, the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) is now taking a short break before it returns to action on 23 and 24 June with races 13 to 15 of the season in Vila Real (Portugal).

Robert Huff (GB), Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR #12 : « I did not get off to a good start in race one: We had to wait a long time on the grid, which meant that the clutch got quite hot. I think I did well to get third, despite that. All in all, it was a very positive weekend, at which we scored a lot of valuable points – while some of my rivals missed out. »
