EuroFormula Open : Oliver Goethe wins the battle for pole at Estoril

Oliver Goethe, of Motopark, is the first poleman of the 2022 Euroformula Open season. The young German emerged as fastest from a very closely-fought Qualifying session, thanks to a late move that allowed him to top the clock in 1.29.357. There were 9 changes of leader throughout the session and the first 11 drivers finished within one second.

Goethe was very happy after his achievement: « We had good practice sessions but they don’t mean much. Qualifying was the real first test and I am very happy of the result. It took a while to put everything together, but eventually I could set a very good lap. It is my first time here at Estoril but I like this kind of old-school tracks. »

Sharing first row with the German will be Josh Mason, who also emerged at the end of the session to take second only 0s065 behind the leader. Two other Cryptotower drivers will be in second row, Vlad Lomko (-0s228) and Frederick Lubin (-0s258).

Follow the three VAR cars of Sebastian Øgaard (-0s319) and Filip Ugran (-0s512) and Nicola Marinangeli (-0s536), who all led the session at some point in the first part, but could not maximize their efforts in the closing phases.

It was a disappointing session instead for Alex Peroni (Drivex) who saw his session ruined by a steering problem. « Couldn’t really turn to the right and you need it every now and then… » commented the Austrialian with his usual sense of humour.
