Borgward Rally Team is ready to start the 2020 Dakar Rally after passing the scrutineering of their two Borgward BX7 EVO. On January 5th the team, with drivers Nani Roma (301) and Ricardo Porém (332), will start the rally in Saudi Arabia.

The Spaniard Nani Roma is the lead driver of the Borgward Rally Team. The two-time Dakar winner is starting with number 301 after ending in second place last year. In preparation for this year’s Dakar Rally he drove the Rallye du Maroc and Baja Portalegre. His main goal is to be competitive in every stage of the 2020 Dakar.

After scrutineering, Nani Roma said: « This is all very new to me. I have a new co-driver, a new car, we are even running the rally in a new country. But this is a great challenge and I am very happy about that. Our mission is always to be competitive, I will always fight to win. We are ready for this new challenge. »

For Ricardo Porém it will be only his second participation in the Dakar Rally after making his debut last year. Porém is the latest driver to be added to the Borgward Rally Team lineup. He drove a great Baja Portalegre with the Borgward BX7 EVO and showed great potential.

Before the podium ceremony Ricardo Porém said: « I had a very positive Dakar debut in 2019. Driving a SxS allowed me to understand how a complex race like Dakar is. This year I want to continue learning but I also hope to have a chance to fight for a good result. The cars are prepared and the team is ready for the race. »

Borgward Rally Team is assisted by Wevers Sport in the preparation of the two Borgward BX7 EVO. One completely new Borgward BX7 EVO has been built by the team whilst the other Borgward BX7 EVO has been completely rebuilt after the last race in Portugal in 2019. The team has worked very hard to get the cars ready for the biggest rally raid event of the year.

Erik Wevers, owner of Wevers Sport, said: « The time has come. We have put a lot of information together to design a plan for this 2020 Dakar. The two Borgward BX7 EVO are ready to go. We are motivated and I think this will be a great Dakar. »

The Borgward Rally Team had a successful two-day shakedown in Saudi Arabia this week in order to accommodate themselves to the new environment of this year’s Dakar Rally! It was a great day to see that the two Borgward BX7 EVO are ready for the start. It was also a great afternoon for the drivers and team to spend some time with the sponsors.
