A murmur went round the specialist audience when Volkswagen unveiled the spectacular I.D. R Pikes Peak in front of representatives of the media in Alès (France). The 500-kW (680-hp), fully-electric prototype for the iconic hill climb on Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs (USA) features a clever balance between power, battery capacity and performance, and lightweight design.
The Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak now embarks on a very intense test programme before the big day on 24 June 2018, when the super sports car will attempt to break the existing record for electric cars.
