– Porsche takes the lead in teams’ and manufacturers’ standings
– Maiden Formula E pole position for Nico Müller
– Four Porsche-powered cars inside the points
Nico Müller and Pascal Wehrlein secured the fifth-ever double podium finish for the Porsche Formula E Team in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s Miami E-Prix on Saturday, moving the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer into the lead of the teams’ and manufacturers’ standings. Pepe Martí and Jake Dennis of the Porsche customer teams Cupra Kiro and Andretti Formula E finished in ninth and tenth positions respectively, making it four Porsche cars inside the points.
A light rain shower ahead of the 41-lap race meant the Miami E-Prix started behind the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT safety car due to the damp conditions. Having claimed his maiden Formula E pole position in the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric, Müller led the field for the standing start at the beginning of lap 6. Having held the lead for large periods at the Miami International Autodrome, the Swiss Porsche factory driver finished second to claim his first podium of the campaign and maiden rostrum since joining the Porsche Formula E Team at the start of the season.
Teammate Wehrlein, meanwhile, climbed up from eleventh on the grid having just missed out on a place in the qualifying duels by three one-hundredths of a second. The former World Champion from Germany completed the podium in third having won in Miami 12 months ago when the race was hosted at a different venue.
The result moves Porsche into the lead of both the teams’ and manufacturers’ standings, with Wehrlein now up to second in the drivers’ standings and just two points off the top spot.
Second outing for Ayhancan Güven
Alongside Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller, a third factory driver took the wheel of the 99X Electric in Miami, as 28-year-old Turkish driver Ayhancan Güven completed the Rookie Free Practice for Porsche. On the Friday ahead of the race, eleven drivers were given the opportunity to test the Formula E cars during an additional practice session. These so-called rookies have not yet contested a full Formula E season and are intended to be introduced to the specific demands of the all-electric world championship. Güven completed 28 laps and supported the Porsche team in its preparations for the E-Prix. It was the 2025 DTM champion’s second outing in the 99X Electric following the rookie test day in Berlin last July.
Racing for Charity
Under the motto Racing for Charity, Porsche is making a strong social statement in the current Formula E season, supporting seriously ill children worldwide. For every lap completed by its two factory-run Porsche 99X Electric, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer donates 400 euros to the charitable organizations Kinderherzen retten e.V., Interplast Germany e.V., and the Ferry Porsche Foundation. With Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller completing the maximum number of laps so far this season, the current donation total stands at 87,200 euros.
Comments on the Miami E-Prix
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: « A very strong race day in Miami for our factory team. Nico put in an outstanding performance in qualifying to take his first pole position. In the race, in tricky conditions, it was a very well-managed race from the whole team with good calls. Pascal was not happy with the car in practice, but he turned it around with strong pace and came through from P11. Finally, we got the big haul of points we looked good for in São Paulo and Mexico City but did not achieve. It is the first double podium of the season and 36 points in total puts us in the lead of the teams’ and the manufacturers’ standings, while in the drivers’ standings, we’re second and fifth. That’s a good place to build from. Thanks to everyone in the team for making this possible, also to everyone back home in Weissach. We’ve shown good performance on three tracks, we’ll be working hard to carry that on again next time in Jeddah. »
Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#94): « A pretty good race coming from P11 to reach the podium. There was a lot of pace in the car in the race. Unfortunately, we had a few issues before the race which compromised our weekend slightly. But nevertheless, the race was super strong. Double podium, a lot of points for the team, and we’re banking those points which is important early in the season. I already can’t wait for the next race in Jeddah. »
Nico Müller, Porsche factory driver (#51): « Great to get my first Formula E pole position and my second podium but the first with Porsche – it feels very special! Double podium for the team, which makes it a great day for us. Super pleased for everyone, and I’m thankful for their trust in me. I had a lot of fun out there today. In the dry, in the wet: the car was just performing, and we could bring home very important points. You always want to win, but Mitch Evans was just that tiny bit stronger today. Congrats to him, and we will try to make his life harder next time. It just makes me even hungrier. »
