The first week of the Dakar Rally was full of challenges, but Tim and Tom Coronel are looking back with a positive mindset. At the start of the rally, they faced technical issues such as broken springs and loose bolts, but these were resolved with a healthy dose of creativity and teamwork. The result? A spot in the top 20 and growing confidence for the road ahead.

« We got into a good rhythm with our new car right from day one, » Tom reflects. « The results took a bit longer to show because of some bad luck, but the pace felt good. The fun came back, and you can feel it in how smoothly everything goes. » The last few stages confirmed what the team is capable of: maintaining a steady pace and improving as the rally progresses.
A rest day in work mode
While the rest day is officially meant for relaxation, it was all about maintenance for the team. The car was completely taken apart: from testing the springs to replacing the third gear and seals. « It’s hard work, but we know why we’re doing it. Everything is in top condition now, which will benefit us in the dunes. »
Tom was busy reapplying stickers to the car. « Tim kept driving through the bushes, so I had my work cut out for me. That was 100% your fault since you’re behind the wheel. » To which Tim laughingly responded, « Yeah, but you’re the one navigating me through them. » The brothers’ spirits were clearly high.
Sand, dunes, and new opportunities
The second half of the rally brings tough dunes, but the brothers see this as an opportunity. « The four-wheel drive makes a world of difference, » Tim explains. « Where we struggled in two-wheel drive before, we now have much more grip and confidence in the sand. It’s still tough, but the Century CR7 feels great, and that gives us an edge. »

Focus on progress
Starting week two in 20th place, the team is full of confidence. « We mainly want to stay out of trouble and steadily move up, » Tim said. « The car feels fantastic, we’re in sync with each other, and we know what’s ahead. It’s all about smart driving and seizing our moment. »
The goal for the second week is clear: hold onto their top-20 position and perhaps climb even higher. With their confidence restored and the car ready for action, nothing seems to stand in the way of a strong second half of the rally.
